RELOCATING

A few tips to make your move as painless as possible:

Research First

Moving to a new area can be an exciting adventure, but it is prudent to arm yourself with the necessary knowledge ahead of time. Researching your destination's city systems, neighborhoods, and laws will help ensure a smooth sailing experience, and learning about local public transportation options and weather patterns never hurts!

Have a Plan

There are a lot of steps to go through before you start packing the moving truck. Never sign a lease on an apartment that you haven’t seen. If you can’t get there, find a friend or an employer to check for you.

Have a job waiting for you, or if that’s not possible, know what you’ll do for money in the first few weeks of living there. Try to line up things like driver’s licenses, car insurance, renter’s insurance, and parking passes ahead of time as well.

Get Involved

Before relocating, try visiting or connecting with someone who lives there to get a sense of what life is like there. Take the initiative. If there are things you liked to do in your town, find ways to do those things in the city.

Try new things. Volunteer. Big cities offer so many opportunities to engage other people, so find what you like.

Mind Your Wallet

Being exposed to a new neighborhood can be incredibly exciting - but remember that while you may want to take advantage of all the great experiences and activities your new area has to offer, it's important to mind your wallet. Explore the amazing local amenities, eat at the delicious restaurants, and enjoy all that the neighborhood has for you - just try not to forget about budgeting.

This is your permanent home now, so try not to go too crazy at first. It's best to be mindful of how much you're spending in order to make sure everything stays within your means!
